Marin Academy seeks an experienced health educator and program leaders to fill a Human Development Teacher & Director of Community Action leave position beginning in August 2018.
Human Development Teacher (50%)
Marin Academy students take a Human Development course for one semester of their freshman and sophomore years. The Human Development courses provide students with opportunities to question themselves and their peers about identity formation, decision-making, relationships, sexuality, social justice, and substance use. Teachers, teaching assistants, and students strive to foster a safe environment where learning takes place through discussions and educational resources. The goal of the program is to help students articulate their values, appreciate a diversity of opinions and make informed decisions.
The responsibilities of this position include:
- Teaching three sections of Human Development;
- Working collaboratively with the other Human Development teacher to build the program and curriculum;
- Attending faculty meetings;
- Serve as an adviser to a student advisory group
- Participating in the Minicourse program and End-of-Year Experiences
Candidates should have a background in health education; experience working with teenagers; an understanding of adolescent identity development; and the maturity, patience, and good humor needed to engage and to challenge students in discussions about values, choices, and personal relationships. Ideal candidates will also have classroom teaching experience.

Marin Academy is situated on a 10-acre campus at the base of the hills of San Rafael, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a 9-12 grade independent, college preparatory high school, we have an enrollment of 420 students with academic talent, interest in the arts and athletics, and a passion for a multitude of issues. Our students come from San Francisco, the East Bay, and Sonoma in addition to Marin County. Marin Academy has a block schedule in which classes meet every other day for 75-minute periods.
