Three-Week Science Instructor

SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR:

We are seeking a three-week adjunct instructor in Science to co-teach in The Bay School’s Immersive program. The instructor is responsible for co-teaching a three-week, experiential, project-based 11th-12th grade “Water in the West” course. The course examines the natural and man-made water systems in California as well as the political and social impacts of this limited resource.  

“Immersive” courses generally meet for six hours a day (9:00am-3:00pm) beginning May 27 and ending on June 14 (June 14 is a faculty work day). For this course, the majority of the course (from May 30 to June 12) occurs at a research reserve in the Eastern Sierra; significant overnight chaperoning responsibilities are part of the position.  The co-instructor is responsible for the following:

• collaborative curricular development and alignment
• oversight of field-based data collection
• design of skills-based formative and summative assessments
• timely grading and feedback
• regular communication with students, parents, and the students’ advisors

regarding the student’s progress

• one-on-one student instruction as needed
• attending students on excursions off-campus

• brings a diversity of teaching and life experience to their work;
• values collegial collaboration as a means to improve the curriculum and the student experience as well as their own craft;
• dedicates themselves to anti-bias and equity work and understands both culturally

responsive pedagogy and the social justice dimensions of education;

• commits to innovation, professional growth, and reinvention;
• demonstrates a passion for teaching and learning as well as for the subject matter;
• enjoys working with and inspiring high school learners in all areas of school life.
