Overview of Support Teacher Position:

Marin Country Day School seeks motivated educators to support elementary classroom teachers. The Support Teacher position is ideal for individuals beginning a career in education and/or in a credential or graduate program. This is a part-time teaching position beginning in late August 2018 and ending June 2019. The position reports to classroom Lead Teacher and Division Head

 

Support teachers are paired with a mentor teacher in a self-contained classroom of approximately 18-20 students in grades K-2. The support teacher remains in that classroom for the academic year. In grades 3 and 4, the support teacher is also paired with a mentor teacher but works across the grade level in two or three different classrooms. Observing and collaborating with mentor teachers and participating in all aspects of school life, support teachers gain valuable experience and training. Support teachers receive observations and feedback and also participate in weekly meetings with a cohort. Meeting topics include information and discussions about classroom management, curriculum planning, social emotional development, technology use, students with learning differences, and assessment.

 

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Meeting with classroom teacher at least once a week
  • Assisting teacher with whole group, small group and individual activities as determined by the classroom teacher
  • Being aware of and responsive to the needs of head teacher and of children
  • Assisting with classroom organizational and clerical responsibilities
  • Providing supervision and support during lunch
  • Supervising the playground and other duties as necessary
  • Attending weekly support teacher seminars and completing related assignments

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of undergraduate degree
  • Desire to pursue a career in education
  • Strong preference for individuals in credentialing and/or advanced degree programs in Education
