Position Description: Town School for Boys seeks a full-time teacher of Spanish to work with two sections of 7th grade and two sections of 8th grade and serve as an Advisor for the 2019-20 academic school year. Current approaches in our classes include AIM, TPRS, Spanish-only in the classroom, leveled texts for reading, and project-based learning. In addition to Spanish in 5th-8th grades, Town students take Latin in 7th-8th grades. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of teaching experience and experience working with students in middle school. A credential or master’s degree is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities of the job include:

The position involves working closely with two other head Spanish teachers, teacher leaders, the Upper School Director, and, as a member of an advisory team, fellow grade-level teachers. Collaboration with the librarians and educational technologists is an integral part of our program. In addition, all students have individual computers, and students’ use of online resources should be integrated into classroom instruction. Faculty play an active role in the school by contributing to committees, chaperoning field trips, and attending student performances and athletic events.

Desired Qualifications and Skills include:

The candidate will have a deep knowledge of Spanish and a passion for working with middle school students, and a demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing innovative approaches to learning such as using project-based learning, inquiry, and teaching for understanding/understanding by design. Cultural competency is an expectation of this candidate and includes integration of diversity and global awareness into the curriculum. Candidates should be strong in their use of technology tools for teaching. We hope to find a candidate with a deep imagination for connecting Spanish to the boys’ lives, using the city as a learning resource; the teacher should also foster students’ interest in and desire for connections around the globe.
