Extended Day Teacher – Extended Day Programs

The Hamlin School seeks a dedicated teacher to supervise students in our outdoor and indoor drop in play spaces after school. Our Extended Day Programs are centered around the idea of students having space for free play and free choice after school. The Extended Day teacher should be comfortable interacting with students from grades K-8, be willing to jump in and solve issues as they arise, and be willing to work with students by keeping their social emotional needs at the forefront of all encounters. Hamlin teachers are caring, compassionate, collaborative, and are dedicated to the education of girls. 

Title: Lair Teacher

Reports to: Hub Coordinator

Primary Responsibility: Supervise students in outdoor play with joy and enthusiasm.

Regular Work Schedule: Monday 1:00-6:00, Tuesday through Thursday 3:00-6:00, and 

Fridays 2:00-6:00. 

Classification: Non-Exempt

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Hub (After school drop in program):

 

• Be a program leader of Hub:

• Assist in preparing facility and supplies for daily program,

• Plan, facilitate, and supervise activities, 

•  “Check-in” with each student at least once per day,

•  Supervise students  in the outdoor play space, or indoor game room as needed,

• Work proactively with students assisting with their individual needs,

• Assist in daily student departures as needed, and

• Straighten up facilities at the end of each day.

 

Extended Day:

 

• Communicate with and support other Extended Day staff,

• Assist in planning special events

• Meet periodically with supervisor to evaluate program and each other, 

• Work collaboratively to create program themes and concepts,

• Assist in mentoring and supervising young alums, and

• Plan with and support the Associate Directors of Extended Day and Hub Coordinator with other activities as needed.

Qualifications:

• Working towards or possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Passion for children and prior experience working with children
• Desire and ability to work effectively with colleagues 
• Enthusiasm, creativity, maturity, work ethic, honesty, patience, and self-control
• Ability to accept and provide supervision and guidance
• Ability to work effectively with parents
• Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing
• Ability to solve problems
• Ability to resolve conflicts
