Position: Full Time Mathematics Instructor

Position Description:
Mathematics at Athenian are a part of a rigorous college preparatory curriculum while serving the needs of the whole student. Therefore the US Mathematics Department offers courses in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Algebra 2 Honors, Precalculus/Precalculus Honors, Calculus (Applied, AP AB, and AP BC), Statistics (Applied and AP), Multivariable Calculus, and Financial Math. Computer Science and Computational Thinking courses are a part of an Engineering and Computer Science Department but there has been cross departmental teaching in the past. A full time instructor teaches 4 sections of mathematics per semester, from 1-3 courses. This role is for a full-time position in the Mathematics department.

- Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years teaching experience in relevant field is required; master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred
Demonstrated commitment to the Athenian School’s ideals: Education for democracy, equity and inclusion, community service, multiculturalism, and environmental stewardship
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years teaching experience in an academically challenging high school (preferably in independent schools)
- Experience and interest in teaching advanced level courses (such as Honors and Advanced Placement)
- Experience and interest in curriculum design and development
- Experience and interest in designing interdisciplinary, inquiry-based, units
- Experience and interest in designing units using the Understanding by Design curriculum design framework
