The Branson School is a coeducational, college-preparatory day school of 320 students, grades 9-12, located in Marin County, California. Branson’s mission is to develop students who make a positive impact in the world by leading lives of integrity, purpose, learning, and joy. Branson is an ever-evolving educational community that challenges and supports students as they grow into confident, thoughtful, ethical people. Position Description
We are seeking a creative, collaborative and flexible music teacher to join Branson’s Visual and Performing Arts Department. The arts department at Branson is a well established and vital component of the Branson student experience. We seek to meet all students wherever they might be in their artistic study, to inspire them toward a deeper sense of their authentic artistic voice, and to broaden their perception of the creative process. The arts at Branson are especially unique in the ways they are interwoven into the educational fabric via interdisciplinary projects, celebrated through community festivals & concerts, and engaged in meaningful work outside the practice rooms in robust visiting artist programming and in partnership with local organizations. Branson student-artist-athletes truly do it all. It is not uncommon to see a choral member at the gym or on the field among the acapella singers performing the National Anthem in uniform prepared to compete in the given event!
We offer a diverse range of musical study including well regarded classical, jazz, rock and choral ensembles built on strong foundational courses. Alongside these established programs the arts are constantly reflecting and visioning in order to fully embody the ideals captured within Branson Strategic goals and initiatives: the pandemic offered us the opportunity to expand the recording and production aspects within coursework; student curiosity has fueled recent work in digital music and composition; next year, we have added Digital Music and Composition to our course offerings. To that end, we seek a visionary leader for the music program to further our reimagining and development of a world class music program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching Honors Level Choral and Performance Seminar Classical (chamber music) as well as some combination of Digital Music and Composition, Music and Performance (intro level) and Intermediate Ensemble
Dedicated and responsive student-centered music teaching, including: developing and assessing clear learning objectives; availability for individual coaching and support of students; organization and administration of visiting musicians and various performances.
Advising student acapella groups
Collaboration with Acting Director and Technical Director in Musical Direction of Annual Musical
Collaboration with Department Chair and department members in further refining course objectives and reimaging music course scope and sequence in line with the goals of Strategic Plan.
Willing partnership in intra-disciplinary planning and teaching of innovative elective and extracurricular course offerings.
Willingness to work outside the school day as necessary for projects and performances.
Serve as an advisor in the student advisory program.
As an active community member, all employees will attend assemblies, staffulty meetings, department meetings, admission events and other required school events including nights and weekends.
Be student centered and actively participate in co-curricular duties approved by the school — coaching, advising a student organization, serving on a committee, etc.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Masters Degree or Higher in Music/Fine Arts is preferred
Ability to teach both Choral and instrumental music.
Experience with small ensembles; coaching and/or playing chamber music.
Committed to exceptional teaching, academic excellence, intra-department and interdisciplinary collaboration, and nurturing the development of the whole student.
Ability to demonstrate our four core values and support our mission statements through collaboration, professionalism and critical reflection
Ability to pass state and federal background check, fingerprinting, and provide a recent negative TB test or screening.
