The Carey School, a PK-5 independent school in San Mateo, California seeks an experienced Learning Specialist or Educational Therapist to serve as a member of our Student Support Team. This professional will work closely with our faculty to support students at all levels of instruction (tier 1, 2 and 3) through push in/pull out support as well as collaboration on implementing universal design practices within the classroom. This position requires collaboration and ongoing communication with the Student Support Team as well as with homeroom and specialist teachers to meet the needs of a diverse student body by way of a strengths based approach. The ideal candidate possesses confidence and experience in providing math, writing, and reading intervention and has particular experience with upper elementary grades and supporting the development of executive functioning. An ability to interpret and implement recommendations and accommodations in the classroom, and serve as counsel to teachers and parents alike is required. The ideal candidate will have past classroom teaching experience and a strong understanding of the elementary developmental stages and a commitment to professional development and research-based practices. Knowledge and background experience interpreting educational and psychological assessments, as well as intervention methodologies including Slingerland, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham or Lindamood-Bell preferred.
