Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join us as a speech and debate coach, instructor, and administrative-lead for the Head-Royce Debate program. Ideally, the candidate will have substantial experience teaching and coaching policy debate, experience in the other high school speech and debate events, and experience coordinating tournament entry and logistics. While this is a part-time Debate position, we have opportunities for it to be a full-time position by supplementing it with teaching in either the History or English department (please see job announcement; your cover letter should indicate your interest in either the part- or full-time role).
We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals.
Head-Royce teachers serve as advisors, club sponsors and participate in the life of the community. We seeks applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
Leadership skills and extensive experience with NSDA policy debate to spearhead and strengthen our increasingly competitive program; deep, nuanced knowledge of policy debate on-case and off-case constructions and strategies
Familiarity with other high-school speech and debate events like Parliamentary, Student Congress, Extemporaneous Speaking, Interpretations, and SpAr
Strong willingness and organizational skills to schedule, coordinate, travel and participate in 8-10 multi-day invitational tournaments
Collaborative, collegial, flexible colleague
Clear communicator with students, colleagues and parents.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience
3-5 years experience in high-school debate
Demonstrated genuine fondness for working with MS and HS students in grades
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Advanced degrees/certification in a related field or in Education
