Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, enthusiastic and innovative Visual Arts teacher to teach 2D art (drawing and painting) in the Upper School. We seek to develop artists by establishing an appropriate and engaging learning environment and offering varied learning activities.
Our educational philosophy focuses on preparing students for the skills necessary to succeed as global citizens in the 21st century. Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real-world problems and performances.
We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals.
Head-Royce teachers serve as advisors, club sponsors and participate in the life of the community. We seeks applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
Expertise in media and processes related to drawing, painting, and printmaking
Thorough understanding of art history and contemporary critical discourse around art practice
Collaborative, collegial, flexible colleague with the Fine Arts Department
Clear communicator with students, colleagues and parents
Strong organizational skills
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art
Minimum of three years teaching experience across multiple grade levels
Active studio practice or commensurate experience working with 2 and 3-dimensional media
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required: Advanced degrees/certification in a related field or in Education
