We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, experienced educator to fulfill this part time position for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Spanish teacher is an experienced, passionate and creative educator who inspires and engages students within our Spanish program, reflecting appropriate academic rigor while simultaneously fostering excitement and curiosity. The teacher is responsible for leading an integrated, culturally aware, active program in Spanish for lower and middle school grade students. The Spanish teacher works collaboratively with other teachers at the grade levels to develop and implement an effective, engaging, and coordinated school program. This position is approximately 16 hours per week and is not benefits eligible.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Native speaker of Spanish preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (in Spanish or other language preferred)
- Three years’ experience teaching a foreign language as an elementary/middle school educator is preferred, with coursework and classroom experience in progressive education and Positive Discipline.
- Strong communication skills in English
- Solid classroom management skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including patience, discretion and good judgment
- Ability to obtain a valid fingerprint clearance required to teach at Mulberry.
- Demonstrated passion for student learning and directed effort to create a positive, enriching environment and classroom community.
- A successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills and be open to new ideas in teaching methods.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide for the safety and well-being of all students at all times; create a learning environment in which students grow in autonomy as they learn together.
- Serve as Spanish teacher at the assigned grade levels (lower and middle school), and collaborate with departmental and other grade level colleagues to further develop the curriculum and procedures to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Adapt the curriculum and activities to reach the range of individual learning styles, experiences, and abilities within each class and meet the needs of students.
- Build relationships with students to ensure that each student feels understood, nurtured and challenged while supporting and respecting each child’s emerging identity.
- Assess, evaluate and document student progress in a systematic manner.
Prepare report cards (including narrative descriptions), and participate with other teachers as part of student study teams and advisory. - Share information with parents about the program and their child’s progress through written communication, parent conferences, school events, and the school’s website.
- Create opportunities for children to understand and become increasingly responsible for the many communities in which they live within the wider world.
- Represent Mulberry in the community
- Take the P.A.T. (Parent Adult Training) Class or equivalent Positive Discipline Class
- Attend orientation meeting, general meetings, and staff development meetings
- Attend School functions
- Continue professional growth by attending workshops, classes, and conferences as agreed on with the Learning/Curriculum Specialist or Head of School
- Comply with the provisions of the Employee Handbook
This position reports to the Head of School.
