Position Title:  Speech and Debate Instructor/Coach

Position Summary: The Athenian School is seeking a Speech and Debate Instructor/Coach to teach an Upper School Speech and Debate class. This is an immediate and ongoing position. Flexibility to work some weekends (for speech/debate competitions) is required. Reports to Upper School Humanities Chair.

Responsibilities:

·       Teach Upper School Elective Period and focus on helping students building their skills. Speech and Debate will help students research, write, and orate.

·       The teacher in this course will plan lessons, facilitate the class, keep attendance, assign homework as needed, and evaluate student progress.

·       This is a yearlong course but students taking them will receive a semester’s worth of elective credit.

·       The speech and debate class will take students to multiple speech and debate tournaments during each semester. These typically occur on Friday and Saturday.

Qualifications:

●      High school graduate

●      Former competitor in high school or college debate

●      Experience working with high school-aged students

●      Prior experience coaching is strongly desired

●      Excellent communication skills

●      Reliable, flexible, patient, and organized

●      Available to work occasional nights and weekends
