Menlo School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school for students in grades six through twelve. Located in Atherton, California, and established in 1915, the School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the National and California Associations of Independent Schools.

Menlo’s Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time 8th grade Science Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The ideal candidate has a genuine love of Middle School students and is excited to work with all types of learners. They should also have a strong desire to encourage a lifelong passion and understanding of science in their students. We seek an educator who hopes to help students use inquiry to test and explain their ideas and further their understanding of the chemical, biological, and physical world through facilitated exploration. Menlo School teachers are responsible for teaching four class sections and overseeing a 10-11 student advocacy group, as well as a major extracurricular activity.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute classroom lessons in physical, chemical, and life science using the foundations from 6th and 7th grade.
Design learning experiences, create authentic assessments, and evaluate student performance in a standards-based system, using a set of established standards
Use a variety of creative teaching methods and demonstrations that actively engage all students.
Foster curiosity and a love of learning with inquiry-based lessons where students construct, test, and defend their claims.
Actively encourage multiple methodologies for solving problems, and discuss the benefits of certain strategies over others as a vehicle for becoming a more flexible thinker.
Promote thoughtful discourse in the classroom.
Differentiate instruction for a range of student abilities.
Encourage students to develop and measure the learning habits of engagement, collaboration, learning attitude, organization.
Use technology and its applications in the classroom, including the use of MacBooks, Google tools, Veracross, JumpRope, Zoom, and Canvas LMS .
Make recommendations for Upper School science class placements.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required in the field of science or science education; Master’s degree preferred
At least three years of Middle School teaching experience
A broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards-based learning and NGSS three-dimensional teaching.
