Head-Royce is searching for an Upper School Instructional Coach. This position is a new one entirely dedicated to helping bolster individual teachers pedagogy as well as that of the division more broadly. The Instructional Coach works to disseminate best practices in teaching and learning for both groups and individuals. This position reports to the Upper School Head, though it also works in very close coordination with the Assistant Head of Upper School. This administrative leadership position is responsible for supporting teachers, both at teachers own initiative as well as by administrative request. The Instructional Coach will teach two classes in their discipline and advise/co-advise. It is not meant to be an evaluative position, rather one that focuses on supporting teachers in their practice.
Responsibilities
Model and guide needs of faculty for professional learning, focusing on 21st century best practices such as competency based learning and assessment, flipped classrooms, experiential education, and equity based teaching practices.
Offer weekly coaching to approximately five US faculty members and monthly coaching to at least ten faculty members.
Provide pre and post observation meetings following coaching sessions.
Work in concert with the new faculty mentoring program.
Present at USPC meetings on best practices in pedagogy, as well as run PD workshops in other settings.
Meet regularly with the US administrative team to discuss teachers and teaching practices.
Conduct regular Critical Friends Groups to promote a lesson study culture within : dr. economic Head-Royce.
Develop faculty reading and discussion groups focused around pedagogy.
Qualifications
This position requires an advanced degree in education or related degree, significant experience as a classroom teacher in a high school setting, and the ability to present to groups both large and small. A track record of professional development within education is essential. Experience or training in coaching is useful, but not required, as we can also send you to training. As with any job at Head-Royce (or probably anywhere), a sense of humor is also a must!
