Director of Curriculum and Instruction
East Bay School for Boys–an independent middle school for boys in Berkeley, CA–is looking for a part time to full-time administrator for the 2022-2023 school year.
This position has the following duties and responsibilities:
Academic curriculum leadership and supervision of Teaching staff:
Support and oversee curriculum spiraling, development, and documentation.
Conduct semiannual informal observations of all teachers and collaborate with the Head of School to conduct formal observations.
Collaborate with the Learning Specialist to align curriculum with student needs and support teachers in universal design implementation and coordinate aspects of learning services.
In consultation with the Learning Specialist and Director of Student Life, lead the design of daily class schedules.
In collaboration with the Head of School to manage budgeting, coordinate professional development opportunities to enrich Teaching staff and their students and to fulfill job requirements.
Collaborate with Teaching staff to model a strong and skillful approach to student interaction to create a safe and joyful learning environment that fosters a growth-mindset culture; and incorporate identity-safe and anti-bias educational practices to create an inclusive school community that allows a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected.
Use a nuanced understanding of issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion to weave current social issues and the themes of equity and social justice into interactions with the school community in a way that is relevant to our students’ lives.
Effectively communicate with a diverse parent body, including supporting regular school communications such as newsletters and social media posts.
Model a strong and skillful approach to student interaction to create a safe and joyful learning environment that fosters a growth-mindset culture; and incorporate identity-safe and anti-bias educational practices to create an inclusive school community that allows a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected.
Lead Teaching staff to be holders and drivers of school culture
In consultation with all Administrative and Program Leadership staff, lead the design, execution, and facilitation of New Teacher Orientation and August Institute trainings for teaching staff.
In consultation with all Administrative and Program Leadership staff, lead the design, execution, and facilitation of weekly staff meeting agendas.
In consultation with the Head of School, lead Teaching staff in the use of curricular design tools (lesson plans and mapping tools) to maintain mission and values alignment in curriculum.
Under the direction of the Director of Student Life, participate in and/or co-facilitate student Affinity Spaces.
Serve as chief storyteller on behalf of academic programming:
Participate in admissions Information Nights as a representative of our academic program.
Collaborate with the Director of Operations to generate programmatic content for newsletters and other communications, and facilitate contributions by Teaching staff.
Collaborate with the Director of Operations as needed to develop visual representations of programmatic initiatives, such as Capstone and Exhibitions, and to ensure that programmatic content on the school website is accurate and engaging.

Required qualifications specific to this position include:
A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position.
Experience in curriculum design and supporting a team in curriculum development, preferably in an independent school setting.
Interest and experience in project-based learning and design thinking.
Magnetism, sense of humor, and the ability to apply these to translate the mission of our school into experiences that will attract prospective families.
