We are currently hiring for a Program Director at our WoodWorks Summer Camp:

East Bay School for Boys—an independent middle school for boys in Berkeley, CA—is looking for a Camp & Executive Function Program Director for EBSB’s WoodWorks Summer Camp for rising 6th-9th grade boys. WoodWorks runs for four weeks: June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 5-8 (4 day week), and July 11-15 from 9am-3pm, with Staff Training June 13, 16 & 17. The Camp Director will oversee the daily operations of the WoodWorks Summer Camp, direct a small team of Shop Instructor(s), Assistant(s) and Counselor(s), lead and manage instruction of the non-shop camp activities and executive functioning curriculum, co-develop curriculum with the Shop Instructor and Summer Programs Director, communicate with parents and publicly represent the camp, and generally oversee the safety and wellbeing of all campers. The Camp Director will report to the Summer Programs Director.

Duties specific to this position include:

Direct and oversee the daily operations and activities of the camp. Hold responsibility for EF curriculum & instruction, camp activities, team management, scheduling, supplies coordination, and all campers’ safety & wellbeing.
Manage team and lead regular team meetings. Delegate and foster growth and positive development and relationships amongst camp staff. Coordinate with the Summer Programs Director as needed.
Lead and coordinate all camp activities outside of the shop. Includes culture/team building, projects, games. Ensure every camper has a meaningful, educational and successful experience at camp as best as possible.
Co-design and implement an executive function curriculum. Integrated with the ‘maker’ shop curriculum and EBSB’s principles for engendering engaging, thoughtful and courageous young adults. Collaborate with Shop Instructor & Summer Programs Director to develop and implement curriculum.
Coordinate needed supplies and equipment for all camp activities outside of the shop. Coordinate needed supplies and equipment with the Summer Programs Director as needed.
Secure the safety and wellbeing of all campers. Hold responsibility for emergency contacts and information and all medication. Ensure physical and emotional well-being for all campers.
Create an inclusive camp community. Incorporate identity-safe and anti-bias educational practices that allows a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected.
In addition, we ask Camp & EF Program Directors to do the following:

Participate in camp and curriculum design meetings before camp launch.
Lead regular team meetings and communicate often with the Summer Programs Director.
Attend mandatory three-day training in preparation for camp (June 13, 16 & 17).
Effectively communicate with a diverse parent body as needed.
Desired qualifications specific to this position include:

At least two years experience as a learning specialist, teacher and/or in a leadership position at a youth camp.
Experienced in woodworking, metalworking and other industrial arts, as well use of shop tools and equipment.
