Status: Full-time, Exempt 11 month position
Head-Royce School is searching for a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to serve as our Assistant Middle-School Head. This person will join our Middle School Leadership Team, which includes the Middle School Head, grade-level deans, learning specialist, and school counselor and will report to the Middle School Division Head. The successful candidate will be committed to nurturing a diverse, inclusive community, be a strong communicator, and have prior academic leadership experience in an educational setting. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience and excellence as classroom teachers, a track record of anti-racist pedagogy, a deep understanding of adolescents and a genuine fondness for working with this age range.
Responsibilities
This position has key responsibilities in three areas: Administrative (including close work with faculty and the professional community more broadly), Student Life, and Family Partnership. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the community in line with our mission and strategic plan in those areas. In addition, this person will be responsible for teaching one class, and (co) advising a small cohort of students through advising program.

Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning
Outstanding organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle long-range planning while prioritizing and completing multiple tasks simultaneously
The ability to work calmly and efficiently in a busy school
Proactive communication and problem-solving skills, coupled with strong and timely written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated track record of working well with a variety of constituents, including a courteous and helpful demeanor when working with parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and visitors
Flexible work style, and the ability to uphold the highest standards of work and ethics
The wisdom and confidence to provide advice and counsel on sensitive matters of importance
Strong understanding of child development and a joy in working with Middle School aged-children
Ability to use technology effectively
A sense of humor
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree required
5 years of teaching experience with the majority spent in Middle School
Some leadership experience
Understanding of, and commitment to working with diverse racial, ethnic, gender, cultural, as well as disabled populations and promoting equity and inclusion for our constituents.
Ability to provide proof of Covid Vaccination (including booster if applicable) and Livescan and TB clearance
Preferred Additional Qualifications
Previous leadership experience, e.g., grade-level dean, grade-level coordinator, or department chair
Advanced Degrees in Education, Leadership or an academic discipline
Experience in Restorative Justice practices
