Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking a creative, energetic, and innovative Choral Director to teach 6th – 12th grade students in vocal music as a part of our Fine Arts program. We seek to develop our vocal artists by establishing an appropriate and engaging learning environment and offering varied learning activities. Our educational philosophy focuses on preparing students for the skills necessary to succeed as global citizens in the 21st century. Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real-world problems and performances. Head-Royce teachers participate beyond the classroom as advisors, club leaders, and committee members. The School seeks applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in multicultural education, and an understanding of adolescents.
Skills
Culturally inclusive teaching practices and curriculum design.
Broad-based knowledge of standard choral repertoire from the Renaissance through the 21st century
Advanced skills on the piano or other accompanying instruments
Collaborative, collegial, flexible colleague
Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents
Strong organizational skills
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Qualifications
Advanced performance degree in music (BM or MM)
A strong background in singing and vocal pedagogy
3-5 years experience teaching Vocal Music
Experience putting on a vocal or musical theater performance
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience
Demonstrated genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:
Advanced degrees/certification in Education or in the Visual/Performing Arts
Experience in digital song-writing
Experience in jazz, pop or modern a cappella styles is welcome
Demonstrated desire to work with multiple age groups.
