Menlo Middle School (grades 6-8) is seeking an enthusiastic educator with middle school teaching experience to teach Dance. Middle School subject teachers have four class sections with at least two class periods for preparation in a rotating block schedule.
All Middle School teachers participate in an extracurricular activity and also serve as an advocate for a group of 10-11 students. Teachers meet regularly with grade-level teams and the middle school and upper school Creative Arts departments to discuss curriculum, pedagogy, student progress, and special initiatives. The Dance program supports the development of students’ dance skills while also building their choreographic skills, performance techniques, and self-reflection. Students are exposed to many different styles of dance and movement, and are encouraged to not only dive into the styles that interest them, but also explore new styles as well.
Choreographic responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Choreograph the annual dance concert in conjunction with the upper school dance teacher
Choreograph/stage two Middle School plays/musicals a year in coordination with the MS director
Providing group choreography for special events including the Holiday Assembly, Creative Arts Week, and others as needed.

Facilitate a dynamic and inspiring classroom, using a wide variety of creative and learner-centered teaching methods
Support the organizational, academic, and emotional needs of middle schoolers through a genuine love of middle school students
Differentiate classroom materials and presentations as needed to allow for learning differences among students
Contribute to the school community by actively participating in extracurricular activities, faculty committees, and school initiatives
Show a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity
Are comfortable with technology and its applications in the classroom, including the use of MacBooks, Canvas, Veracross, and Google tools
Manage frequent and ongoing verbal and written communications with students, parents and colleagues
Work collaboratively with other faculty members towards a common goal through active listening, sharing, and reflecting
Commit to their own professional growth and reflection
Model high ethical and moral standards
Work in-person technology (zoom, in person technologies, camera, ect)
Teach the following classes: 6th grade Introduction to Dance Class; 7th and 8th Dance Electives
Offer and run a student Dance Performing group
Choreograph dances to share with the community
Be a grade level advocate and attend grade level team meetings
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
At least three years of Middle School teaching experience
A broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards-based learning
