The Carey School is a Preschool to Grade 5 independent school in San Mateo, California, operating on two campuses. The Carey School seeks a qualified candidate to supervise students and staff in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade auxiliary programs. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Auxiliary Programs is responsible for operations, hiring, staff management, program design, promotions, budget, and evaluation of all The Carey School’s auxiliary programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Develop and manage all auxiliary programs for the The Carey School community including extended care, after school programing, childcare for special school events, field trips, holiday camps, and summer camps
-Hire, train, and manage all auxiliary staff
-Act as a liaison between enrichment, recreation, and camp vendors and The Carey School for facility rentals and usage
-Lead and create auxiliary curriculum, games, and activities
-Negotiate contracts with third-party service providers of enrichment, recreation, and camp programs
-Be responsible for knowing, understanding, training, and executing all school policies and emergency procedures
-Participate and support daily school duties such as recess, lunch, pick up/drop off, and/or other duties as assigned
-Manage and oversee the auxiliary program budget
-Maintain and grow profitability of auxiliary programs and events
-Create a safe and educational learning environment for children by ensuring all staff implement program curriculum, activities, and safety guidelines
-Regularly attend and observe childcare and enrichment programs for the purposes of observation, evaluation and guidance
-Conduct parent communications, surveys, and outreach as appropriate
-Select, manage, and maintain accurate check in/check out systems and form collection processes for all participants of the auxiliary programs
-Attend regularly scheduled meetings with elementary school administrators

Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required
-An expert in youth development programming, demonstrating current and thorough knowledge of regulations, applicable laws, trends, best practices and new developments in youth recreation
-Well-developed collaborative work style and positive attitude
-An enthusiasm for learning, play, and fun
-Five years of summer, recreation, and/or afterschool program experience with at least two years of progressively responsible experience managing summer, recreation, and/or afterschool programs
-Professional and clear communication skills, especially in regard to communicating with parents, teachers, administrators, and students
-Excellent project management and organizational skills
-High proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft office and Apple products
-Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Recreation, or related field a plus but not required
