As a mentor to a group of 20 students (separate from my history class) I acted as an advocate for their success in the classroom. This included communicating with their teachers and guardians to push mentees towards successful and productive growth in each subject. As a mentor I also fostered social emotional learning in moments of need and distress. Mentoring also required raising awareness about the possibilities of college and how to get there.
