Overview of Position
This position is for a 7th grade math associate teacher, beginning August 2022. This teacher will report to the Middle School Division Head and will work in close collaboration with the Lead 7th Grade Math Teacher, the 7th grade team, and the Math Department. This is a full time teaching position.
Responsibilities of Job
Assist in teaching Illustrative Mathematics curriculum and Desmos Math curriculum, problem-based, student-centered, common-core-aligned programs, to the entire 7th grade of approximately 72 students
Support and teach students in whole group, small groups, and 1on1 as directed by lead teacher
Support and collaborate in the preparation of the class by grading work, preparing materials, etc.
Substitute teach for lead teacher as needed
Support students, lead teacher, and grade level team as needed in study hall
Serve on the 7th grade team with ongoing collaboration with other grade team members.
Collaborate with the other math teachers to ensure a cohesive mathematics program across the whole middle school
Effectively communicate with a diverse parent body
Support lead teacher and 7th grade team in preparing for and participating in parent-teacher conferences as needed
Support lead teacher in writing reports twice a year
Support grade level team by occasionally leading activities, subbing, or co-leading advisory sessions
Participate in all grade wide field trips, special events, meetings, and initiatives
Required Qualifications
Appreciation for and desire to work with middle school aged students
Understanding of the development of middle school aged students
Familiarity with middle school math education
Understanding that there are many equally valid paths to math understanding, and that all require different types of support to succeed
Ability to create a safe and joyful learning environment that fosters a growth-mindset class culture
Knowledge of the essential role social emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in application of social emotional learning within the educational setting
Knowledge of identity safe and anti-bias educational practices and ability to create an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected
Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Detail oriented
Flexibility
Excellent interpersonal skills
Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
Knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning
In addition to required qualifications, desirable additional skills include:
Familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics curriculum
Familiarity with Desmos
Nuanced understanding of DEI/social justice knowledge from a personal or programmatic perspective
Duties school-wide include:
Ancillary duties include responsibilities that are part of middle school life, e.g., team and staff meetings, attendance at school functions, recess duties, etc.
