K-8 School

6th Grade Humanities Teacher position covers a one-year leave, overlapping with current 6th Grade Humanities Teacher for 2 – 3 months in the fall.

Overview of the Position

Under the supervision of the Middle School Director, the Humanities Teacher will be responsible for all aspects of a progressive, self-contained classroom, including curriculum development, student assessment and parent communication. Class size is between 20-22 students.

The ideal candidate will:

A valid teaching credential is required.
Be well-versed in progressive educational theory and practices,
Have at least two years of exemplary classroom teaching experience in humanities, history and english language arts
Working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and social-emotional learning.
Be able to successfully instruct and differentiate for students at different ability levels.
Have a nurturing, supportive and clear tone with students.
Understand how to work with a diverse student population.
Be committed to social justice, equity, and diversity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Great collaboration and teamwork skills
Basic computer skills
A positive, and empathetic attitude
Dependable and Punctual
Excellent rapport with families.
Welcomes feedback and support, as needed.
Job includes:

Continuously develop and examine the humanities curriculum in conjunction with the Middle School Team.
Collaborate with the entire middle school staff, teaming to support the students socially, emotionally and academically, as well as to ensure program cohesiveness and continuity.
Responsible for the daily instructional delivery of their subject-specific curriculum that aligns with the school’s mission and vision.
Teach classes each day, support an advisory group (of approximately 14 students), lead advisory meetings/activities for twenty-five minutes each day, function as the liaison between home and school for each advisee, and have other Middle School duties as assigned.
Conduct ongoing student assessment and write narrative progress reports twice a year.
Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses
Grade students’ assignments to monitor their progress
Communicate with parents about their child’s progress
Display student work in the classroom to showcase student learning
Collaboration with supervisor(s)
General student supervision in class and other areas on campus.
