SUMMARY
The PE Teacher will be part of a high-functioning PE department that meets weekly and collaborates on planning, instructional practices, student support, and assessment creation. Responsible for developing the talents of students K-8 in physical education, to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. Teaches cognitive concepts about motor skills and fitness.

As with any teacher at Mayfield Junior School, there is an expectation that this person will be open to peer feedback, creative discussion, and child-centered in their approach.  All teachers at Mayfield Junior School should familiarize themselves with the mission and vision statement and be prepared to actively teach with Holy Child goals in mind. The PE Teacher should be ready to chaperone class trips, take on typical day-to-day duties such as lunch and carpool duties, and engage fully in all school or division-wide events/experiences that develop the whole child.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches all assigned classes, including knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, dance and team sports, and other learning activities.
Develops curriculum and other developmental programs.
Instructs students in citizenship, sportsmanship and basic subject matter related to physical education
Works collaboratively with other physical education teachers and administrators in planning a balanced physical education program.
Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum of the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible. Offers alternatives during classes to accommodate different levels of fitness.
Integrates technology into the curriculum where appropriate
Prepares proper equipment for each class, provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of student and the care of equipment and facilities.
Participates in staff meetings, prepares reports and assessments, does supervisory duties for recess and lunch as assigned, and assists with special events and activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Excellent verbal communication skills.
Strong motivational and organizational skills.
Extensive knowledge of physical fitness, sports and exercise.
Patience, sense of humor, flexibility, ability to relate to students across a range of ages (K-8)
Ability to perform, demonstrate and participate in all aspects of the physical activities
Basic proficiency with a range of technology such as Microsoft word, Excel and other database programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
Minimum of two years or more teaching physical education.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job the employee works primarily in the gymnasium and the field as well as other various locations throughout the campus where the noise levels range from moderate to loud.
