Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade serving over 470 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Spanning two campuses, and home to a diverse community of students, faculty, and families, CDS is a vibrant learning community. We are seeking a head Basketball coach for a Middle School Boys and/or Girls team for the 2022/2023 Winter season (approximately 10-week duration). A Head Coach must be committed to the personal development of their student-athletes. This includes teaching them skills relating to the sport. A Head Coach must also help students develop a competitive nature, teach them about ethical behavior, good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership and life skills.
The position generally consists of two after school commitments per week usually in the form of either two practices or a game and a practice.
Season: Late November through mid – February 2023
Practice/Game Times: One morning practice 7:30 am – 8:30 am, and one pm practice 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm unless replaced by a game. Home game timeframe is 3:45 pm through 5:15 pm (Any away games are usually a two hour time commitment somewhere between the hours of 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm.)
Practice Days: To be determined by league schedule and coaches availability.
Location: Practices and home games are close to Children’s Day Lower School.
Away Games: Played at neighboring schools in the area. Start times usually 4:00 pm or 5:00 pm.
Season: Six regular season games with two playoff games and a final if applicable.
Responsibilities include: Plan and coach developmentally appropriate coaching sessions in a safe and engaging environment. Work closely with the Middle School Athletics Director to set clear expectations, achieve goals, and planned
objectives for the season. Attend to the social and emotional needs of the students. Adhere to set standards for volleyball and any adapted league rules associated with each level of play. Develop and model best practices and maintain a positive coaching and learning environment. Use the schools online platforms to communicate with team and families throughout the season. Attend the end of season social. Attend all practices and league games, and playoff games and finals if relevant. Set up and break down equipment when necessary. Follow routines and procedures relating to attendance, team uniforms, and student safety.
Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age. Experience coaching at the middle school level (head coaching experience preferred). Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations, opponents, staff, parents, and students. First Aid and CPR certified.
