Part-time position starting 8/1/2023

This position will support our recent efforts to differentiate and enrich our math program and to develop our emerging STEM program, along with teaching a 6th grade math class. Because our Lower and Middle School math program includes a transition from one division to another, the LS-MS math specialist will also support changes in curriculum and staffing. Our educational philosophy focuses on helping students develop the skills necessary to succeed as responsible global citizens in the 21st century. Our faculty create classrooms that seek to inspire in our students a lifelong love of learning by encouraging them to participate in experiential opportunities, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, build empathy and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on duties and participate in the life of the community.

 

Classroom-centered responsibilities 

Scheduled one to two times a week into each 3rd-5th math classroom to do student pull-out for enrichment- would work in conjunction with the student needs identified by the classroom teacher and log weekly classrooms activities
Teach 6th grade math class (65-minutes three times a week)
Meet with 3rd-6th grade classroom teachers to discuss support needs and to suggest enrichment and remediation materials
Observe teacher and provide feedback on approach and instruction in the math
Pull out designated middle school students who need math and organizational support
Other Lower/Middle School or Departmental Job Responsibilities

Review/assess online math textbooks and apps for middle school transition
Work with teachers and administrators in interpreting CTP data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction; provide summary reports to Division Heads and Academic Dean
Attend division or grade level meetings, when needed, and math department meetings
Attend math and occasional science department meetings to facilitate connections between the two departments
Work with math department chair to assess the efficacy of the math curriculum
Attend professional development workshops in the area of math differentiation including Youcube, etc.

Demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, pedagogical approaches and developmental appropriateness in order to deliver engaging, active, student-centered lessons, practice, and assessment.
Familiar with and uses different kinds of assessment (formative and summative).
Qualifications 

Bachelor’s Degree required
Minimum 5 years experience teaching at the primary elementary level
Strong academic background, experience in multicultural education and an awareness of ecological literacy
Genuine fondness for working with students of this age
Additional Qualifications we hope to find, but not required:

Advanced degrees in the field of education
Other Requirements

Must be fully vaccinated (and boosted) against Covid-19 and show proof of negative TB test within the last four years in addition to participation in background screening.

Compensation: Range $75,500-$117,800* Full-time

*Dependent on Years of Experience Teaching and Education Level
