FLSA Classification: Exempt
Reports to:   Science Department Head

Job Term:   August 2023 – June 2024 (1 year, full-time sabbatical replacement)

Salary Band: $70,000 – $150,000

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/objective
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual development through general education. Enable students to build competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

●     Instructional Delivery: Effectively implements essential practices for effectively instructing students to maximize knowledge and skill acquisition

●     Classroom Management: Maximizes administration of rules and procedures, proactive management, effective and stimulating instruction, and reduction of disruptive and inappropriate student conduct to ensure high quality learning, and emotionally safe, equitable environments.

●     Formative Assessment: Supports competency-based education by ensuring understanding of students’ needs and modifies instruction as it is happening to guide and assess student learning.

Essential functions
1.      Design and implement creative pedagogy with instruction that values a hands-on, collaborative, project-based curriculum & methodology

2.      Cultivate an inclusive, challenging, and equitable learning environment that reflects Crystal’s core values and allows the diverse student body to grow and thrive

3.      Collaborate with colleagues to develop innovative and meaningful curriculum with vertical alignment

4.      Integrate technology in effective ways that enhance students’ learning experiences and growth

5.      Participate in professional development opportunities that promote growth and leadership

6.      Serve as an advisor who is committed to the social and emotional development of students

Work environment
●     Able to work in a dynamic environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts

●     Able to lift up to 20 pounds

●     Able to climb stairs

●     May work at a desk and computer for extended periods

Travel required

●     Light travel between the Middle School and Upper School campuses, as needed

Education and experience
●     Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

●     High School teaching experience

●     Strong content knowledge of chemistry

●     Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior effectively

●     Strong communications and interpersonal skills
