Prospect Sierra is an independent, coed TK–8 school located on two campuses in El Cerrito, California, serving 465 students. Overview of Position
This position is for a full time Elementary Science and Garden Associate Teacher, beginning August 2023. This teacher will report to the Elementary Division Head. This associate teacher works closely with the Lead Elementary Science Teacher in order to support TK through fourth grade science classes. The associate teacher will also support integration of eco-literacy curriculum between science and the garden as well as the ongoing garden maintenance and bunny care at the elementary campus.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with lesson preparation for labs and hands-on experiments in kindergarten-fourth grade science classes weekly
- Collaborate with colab teacher to engage our TK students in science, garden, & colab hands-on experiences that promote foundational understandings
- One on one and small group student support during science classes
- Weekly planning preparation with lead science teacher regarding both science and garden curriculum
- Collaboration with science teacher to integrate science curriculum, eco-literacy, and the garden space
- Provide support to faculty to integrate eco-literacy learning into existing curricula
- Facilitate Bunny Care club during lunch recess for first-fourth graders
- Facilitate Garden Club during lunch recess for first-fourth graders
- Ongoing garden maintenance
- Bunny hutch maintenance
- Create meaningful relationships and an inclusive classroom environment with students
Required Qualifications
- Appreciation for and desire to work with TK-4 aged students
- An authentic love of helping students excel in science and eco-literacy learning
- Knowledge of the essential role social emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in application of SEL within the educational setting
- Knowledge of identity safe and anti-bias educational practices
- Ability to create an inclusive classroom community that allows for a multitude of perspectives to be heard and respected
- Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies
- Willingness to be a team player, show initiative, and take on leadership roles as needed
- A passionate commitment to creating an innovative, joyful environment for students
- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification, indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position
