Middle School Counselor (Part-Time – 3 days a week)

Opportunity starting August 2023. Alta Vista Middle School is seeking an energetic, learner-centric school counselor eager to help with the social, emotional, and mental health needs of middle school students.

The school counselor will work effectively with teachers and the Middle School Dean of Students to provide support for individual and small-group counseling. Strong communication skills and professional ethics are essential. Additional responsibilities may also include supervisory duties, participation in professional development, and other school support.

Responsibilities include:

Promotes an atmosphere of trust and building rapport with students by being visible and collaborative, and developing positive relationships
Possesses a strong understanding of mental health and counseling, from both a neuropsychological and practical school-based perspective
Provides short-term counseling services to students as needed
Acts as a liaison between the school and outside professional support providers, in addition to actively connecting families with private and public support resources and agencies
Coordinates crisis intervention assistance with administration to students in need
Advocates for all students and fosters an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community
Maintains a high regard for the privacy and confidentiality of information collected or recorded about individuals with whom they work
Participates in school initiatives or professional development in which the entire school participates, including bringing in outside experts to educate the student, parent, and faculty communities regarding wellness issues
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in MSW, LCSW, MFT with license, or MS in Counseling preferred
Experience in working with school-age populations, children, staff, and parents as a school counselor
Knowledge of the full continuum of mental health care services, such as prevention and intervention
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
As this is an in-person position, candidates must be up-to-date on vaccinations for Covid-19.

Salary:

$50,000 – $55,000, based on experience
