The San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) was founded in 1979 and serves more than 400 students across a parent-child program, a preschool program, kindergarten, and grades 1 through 12. Our Early Childhood and Grade School campuses are in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, and our High School campus is in West Portal.
This is a full time (1 FTE) exempt position
Summary:
San Francisco Waldorf High School seeks an experienced teacher to be its Educational Support Coordinator. The Educational Support Coordinator helps high school students and staff recognize and integrate different learning styles that enable students to benefit from the full rigor and scope of the Waldorf curriculum. The Coordinator will work closely with the Individual Learning Committee (ILC) and the entire faculty in implementing academic accommodations; will be one of the liaisons with parents of students with neurodivergent processing; and will advise and, at times, work directly with these students.
The successful candidate will have a vision of the direction education must take in order to speak meaningfully to the children of today. We seek a person with extensive experience teaching, especially upper grades/high school, and extensive experience working with neurodiverse students. We would welcome candidates with state credentials as learning specialists and educational therapists. Excellent organizational and communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities include:
- Chair the High School Individual Learning Committee to develop policy and processes in support of all students at SFWHS, but in particular neurodivergent students
- Maintain all documentation related to accommodation plans:
Write plans, with input from psychoeducational evaluations, parents/guardians, and student
Update each plan every year, with input from the student
Update plans when there is an recent reevaluation - Collaborate with teachers and parents to recommend outside testing, tutoring, or other needed special services
- Attend to documentation, policy production, procedure implementation and legal considerations of ILC work in consultation with the committee, outside consultants and others as needed
- Coordinate the Peer Tutoring program
- Provide direct coaching in executive skills and subject-area support for students as determined by need and the ILC
- Liaise with outside tutors and other resources
- Coordinate student note-takers and ensure that notes are being taken and available on the school portal
- Work with the Admissions Committee
- Apply for accommodations on standardized tests (College Board and ACT), and organize proctoring when necessary
- Coordinate and attend meetings with parents and students to further the work of ILC
- Organize after-school study hall
- Liaise with Grade School Educational Support Coordinator to ensure the smooth transition of students from one campus to the next
- Liaise with Student Support Directors at other Bay Area independent high schools through BAISLD
- Help coordinate 9th grade orientation week
- Preview/ proofread Teacher Letters of Concern before they go out and teachers’ report card comments, 4 x per year
- Previewing the ILC students’ report cards
- Administer and interpret Mindprint screenings for students who are struggling but don’t have a formal diagnosis (3-5 per year, average)
- Faculty sponsor of the Neurodiversity Affinity Group
- Coordinate the Neurodiversity Panel at all-school assembly each spring
- Teach study skills for 9th grade – use of planners, teaching about executive function skills
- Liaise with the Grade School Administrative Coordinator to create school planners
- Oversee the HS ILC budget
- Seek out training opportunities that will further your work and education
- Can teach up to 20% FTE
- Fulfill faculty duties required of 1 FTE position
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Education Specialist Credential preferred
- Graduate/Specialist degree highly recommended
- Experience supporting student with learning differences in an academic setting for at least 3 years
- Preference for candidates with classroom teaching experience, particularly at a Waldorf school, although this should not discourage those without such a background from applying
Benefits and Compensation:
This is a full-time (1 FTE) position with full benefits including medical, dental, flexible spending plans, retirement plan (employer contributions after one year of employment), and tuition remission for eligible dependents in our N-12 program.
The full 1 FTE annual salary range is $60K – $85K depending on experience. It will be prorated for less than full FTE. Salaries are paid on a 12-month schedule.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
- Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours
- FLSA Classification: Faculty; Exempt from overtime
