The Learning Strategies Center (LSC) is a dynamic center of support for the students at Lick-Wilmerding, helping them to identify and overcome barriers to success. The LSC serves foremost as a resource for students with diagnosed learning and attentional differences and physical impairments, but also works with all students who hope to improve their academic performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Student Support:

Work one on one with students with diagnosed learning differences (and their families), responsibilities to include:

  • Guiding students in the LP/PLP/AaRF* processes
    Mentoring in meta-cognitive skills
    Assisting students in understanding and accessing appropriate accommodations.

Work with students in need of learning support who do not have diagnosed learning differences, responsibilities to include:

  • Developing and presenting student workshops, emphasizing meta-cognitive, organizational, and self-regulatory strategies
  • One-on-one tutoring, multiple disciplines preferred
  • Working with teachers to coordinate support of students
  • Assessing and addressing students’ non-diagnosable academic challenges
  • Helping to screen students for possible diagnosable learning challenges

Assist the Director of the LSC with:

  • Managing/communicating with external resources such as tutoring organizations
  • Managing ongoing student caseload
  • Bureaucratic responsibilities and maintenance of student files
  • Envisioning new directions for the program, to better serve the community

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Test Coordination:

  • Facilitation and proctoring of internal accommodated assessments
  • Coordination of on-site standardized testing for students
  • Proctoring (shared) of weekend accommodated standardized tests

Contribute to organization and monitoring specific LSC programs, including:

  • Peer tutoring program
  • Historical Records Archives
  • Tutoring (FI: grammar, world language, math)

SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May serve as an advisor a group of 11-12 students.
  • May serve on faculty/staff committees and groups
  • May develop own ideas for expanding community support
  • May serve on faculty/staff teams (Student Support, etc.)

This full-time position has a high level of autonomy; the LSC Associate is encouraged to pursue/participate in other interests within and outside of school which add value to the department and community. Ample opportunity for professional development is built into the position.

This is a 10-month position; responsible to be in the office through the end of the second week of June and beginning again at the start of August, to work with the current LSC staff. The position has flexibility in schedule, with a preference for a later start, later finish day. The current opening is for th 2023-2024 school year.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications

  • Deep commitment to working with neuro-diverse students in an independent high school setting.
  • Willingness to pursue education in equity pedagogy
  • Conversant in factors related to neuro-diversity; ability to interpret psycho-educational evaluations
  • Cognitive flexibility, strong communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and bureaucratic details, high level of organization
  • MA/MS in field or commensurate experience working with neuro-diverse students in an educational setting
  • Enjoys working with teenagers from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Team player as well as self-directed worker
  • Ability to set and hold strong boundaries
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with aplomb
  • Availability to work after school hours and on weekend days as needed

In the spirit of pay transparency, we share the base salary range for this position: $90,000 to $115,000. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, retirement plan contributions, or potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at LWHS are reasonable expectations of what the School anticipates paying for a role but are not guaranteed. If hired at LWHS, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, and numer of months of work per academic year.
