The Music & The Movement: From Dr. King & Civil Rights to Hip-Hop & Beyond

The Music and The Movement is a multimedia presentation featuring hip-hop author Bakari Kitwana and hip-hop artist/archivist Akua Naru. The event will examine the role of art in activist movements from the civil rights movement to hip-hop—as hip-hop celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Part performance and part discussion, the program examines love and wellness, peace and justice, art as liberation and a radical vision for the future—ideas at the heart of both Dr. King’s legacy and hip-hop cultural and political movements.

The 45-minute discussion/performance/visual portion of the event will be followed by a 30-minute student-centered breakout session that explores a collective vision for liberated futures.

Doors open at 6:00 pm. Seats are first-come, first-serve.
