The Part-time School Counselor role is up to 16 hours per week during the 2023-24 school year. The counselor will spend time in person on Hillbrook’s San José campus and work additional hours remotely or in person, as needed and mutually agreed-upon with the employee’s supervisor. Compensation is at an hourly rate determined by years of experience.

As described below, the ideal candidate would be able to expand to a full-time role in the 2024-2025 school year with responsibility for supporting both the counseling and learning support needs and case management at the Upper School.

The Position: What Will You Do & How Will We Collaborate?

During the remainder of 2023-2024 school year, The Upper School Counselor will support the health and wellbeing of 9th grade students and their families. The School Counselor will play a critical role in evolving and sustaining the school’s approach to social emotional learning at the high school level, working proactively and responsively to care for the needs of the community, and building a cohesive program that supports student wellness at this critical age and stage.

During the 2024-2025 school year, the role will become a full time role, Upper School Counselor & Learning Support Specialist, as we expand to a 9th and 10th grade program. This will be a unique opportunity for a qualified individual to work closely with the school’s Director of Student Support to build an integrated student support program at the high school level that involves support for learning, health, and wellness.

The Upper School Counselor is expected to actively participate in a collaborative employee culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of JK – 12th grade education. They report to Hillbrook’s JK-12 Director of Student Support and they are a member of the Student Support Team.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 2023-2024 (Part-Time)

The Part-time School Counselor role is up to 16 hours per week during the 2023-24 school year. The counselor will spend time in person on Hillbrook’s San José campus and work additional hours remotely or in person, as needed and mutually agreed-upon with the employee’s supervisor.

●      Provide 6 hours of weekly on-site support for Upper School students

●      Attend Upper School Learning Support Team meetings (virtual or in-person) with Director of Student Support, Upper School Learning Specialist, and Upper School Division Head

●      Partner with the Director of Student Support to offer teachers coaching or guidance as they develop curriculum and teaching strategies to meet students’ diverse social-emotional and learning needs

●      Attend biweekly Student Support Team meetings on Mondays from 3:15-4:00 pm (virtually or in-person)

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 2024-2025 (Full-Time)

●      Be present on campus to support student learning and mental health needs between 8:30am-4:30pm

●      Support the development and expansion of a 4-year health and wellness program, including the instruction of two exploratory classes for 9th and 10th grade students

●      Partner with the Director of Student Support to develop student support plans to meet the needs of a range of learners

●      Attend weekly Upper School Learning Support Team meeting (virtual or in-person) with the Director of Student Support and Upper School Division Head

●      Partner with the Director of Student Support to offer teachers coaching or guidance as they develop curriculum and teaching strategies to meet students’ diverse social-emotional and learning needs

●      Attend weekly Student Support Team meeting (virtually or in-person)

 

Qualifications

●      Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a diverse, dynamic, and progressive school community

●      A commitment to anti-racism and demonstrated skill designing equitable and inclusive educational experiences and learning environments that incorporate themes of diversity and justice

●      Desire and ability to work in a collegial, highly collaborative environment

●      Master’s degree in counseling or a related field
