The Position: What Will You Do & How Will We Collaborate?
Community Engagement and Program Lead
The Community Engagement and Program Lead will play a critical role of growing, supporting, building and maintaining meaningful partnerships in the Los Gatos and San Jose community for students, employees and families. From formal events to social impact projects to Scott Center Club projects, the CEP Lead will align and amplify our work that happens off campus. This unique role operates on a Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am- 6 pm schedule in order to support evening, weekend and after school programs. The Community Engagement and Events Lead will be someone who loves visionary thinking as well as tactical execution; someone with an entrepreneurial spirit as well as a grounding in best practices in social entrepreneurship and experiential education. This is a chance to join the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship (SCSE) team at a strategic and exciting moment of growth internally and externally – a truly unique opportunity to shape and nurture a program from its early stages. The Community Engagement and Program Lead will also have opportunities to visit and collaborate with local entrepreneurs, local activists, and co-teach social impact courses locally and globally.
The Community Engagement and Program Lead has 5 main areas of responsibility:
● Support core Scott Center programs and teaching at the LG and SJ campuses
● Create meaningful social impact and service learning experiences off campus for students, faculty and families
● Amplify the work of the Scott Center with new audiences using our mobile classroom
● Support the ongoing partnership and intersectional work of the Scott Center and DEIJA team
● Co-teach and design Reach Beyond courses and Upper School Immersives

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
● Actively participate in a collaborative employee culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of JK – 12th grade education.
● Oversee Scott Center community partnerships and projects that allow for meaningful community engagement for students and families
● Attention to safety and risk mitigation during events and travel
● Ability to work flexible hours outside of 9:00am – 5:00pm
● Contribute to typical teaching responsibilities and duties on both LG and SJ campuses
● Support and co-teach Reach Beyond Block classes across the JK-8th grade
● Maintain attention to safety and risk mitigation during events and travel
● Support the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship Lower and Middle School Student Club
● Support evening and weekend Scott Center events (Civic Dinners, Conversations 4 Good events, Hillbrook Open Houses, Makers Market, SIL Summit, etc.)
● Co-lead the execution of bringing the Scott Center to new audiences using our Happier Camper mobile classroom
● Drive truck, trailer, and vans with students present
● Design and co-lead two Upper School, 3 week Immersive social impact courses in September and May
● Run various social impact focused summer camps
● Support the design and implementation of Upper School H Block and other social impact electives
● Create and lead after school enrichment offerings
● Design and co-lead a one week Middle School Reach Beyond Week experience
● Serve as a mentor and community connector for the Social Impact and Leadership class in 8th grade
● Report to Annie Makela, Director of the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship
Qualifications
● Desire and ability to work in a collegial, highly collaborative environment
● Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a diverse, dynamic, and progressive school community
● Strong passion for the role and the school, and an understanding of how the position supports the school’s ability to meet its mission and vision every day.
● A commitment to anti-racism and demonstrated skill designing equitable and inclusive educational experiences and learning environments that incorporate themes of diversity and justice
● Experience teaching students across JK-12th grade
● Demonstrated understanding of social entrepreneurship and social impact education
● Excellent communication skills, including writing, listening, and public speaking.
● Natural networking instincts that make one adept at building and nurturing relationships with all types of constituent groups, including current and prospective families, feeder schools, school partners, and others.
● Entrepreneurial mindset when faced with setbacks or challenges
● Interest in joining a small team in a exciting phase of growth
● Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and turn ideas into action

For more than 85 years, Hillbrook School has been a junior kindergarten-8th grade independent school located on 14 acres of oak woodland in Los Gatos, CA.
