Middle School Division English – Teacher / Part-Time / On-Site
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our Middle School English team. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission.
Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community, which includes overnight trips during the school year. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Experience in teaching English, including knowledge of adolescent and young adult literature, establishing strong literacy skills using a variety of culturally relevant texts; and building grammar and vocabulary skills;
Collaborative, flexible colleague with Middle School teaching experience, with an ability to teach the full range of learners from grades 6 through 8.
Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
Demonstrated knowledge of social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment.
Strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; ideal candidates will have an academic background in the Humanities.
2-5 years minimum teaching experience.
Demonstrated desire to teach in the Middle School.
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
Ability to provide proof of Covid Vaccination and booster, as well as TB clearance
Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required)
Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in the Humanities and, or, Education.
$78,400 – $122,000 a year
*Dependent on Years of Experience Teaching and Education Level
