Job Title: Visual Arts Teacher
Reports to: Dean of Faculty
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Salary Range: $80,000–159,800
Position Description:
Lick-Wilmerding High School currently seeks a dedicated educator to join our Visual Arts Department as a full-time teacher beginning August 2024. The visual arts department is a collaborative and supportive team that nurtures a community of kind, compassionate and curious learners to courageously explore creative processes in a variety of visual arts media.
A full time teaching position at LWHS consists of 4 sections capped at 18 students each. The candidate will be teaching a required course that all ninth graders take called Contemporary Media & Arts, as well as courses in photography. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with a diverse group of high school students, and ideally will have a working knowledge of basic drawing techniques, Adobe Creative Cloud, along with in-depth experience in photography and working in a darkroom. This role additionally includes advising a group of about twelve students as part of our advisory program.
As an institution committed to educating the whole child, we both invite and expect teaching faculty to participate fully in the academic and co-curricular life of the school. This includes, but is not limited to, furthering the mission of the school through participating in our Advisory, Public Purpose, and DEI Programs; as well as routine attendance in all curricular team meetings, department meetings, faculty meetings, and office hours to support students when needed.
Job Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications:
- BFA or higher in fine arts, multimedia, film or related field
- Demonstrate experience with a variety of manual and digital art related techniques
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools, materials and equipment
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying learning and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community - Assist in the maintenance and organization of the darkroom and Photography Studio
- Demonstrated interest in curriculum development, innovation, and professional growth
