Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our Science department. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to meet our students where they are. We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission.
Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors, and they participate in the life of the community. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.
Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Expertise in teaching science, primarily physical sciences.
Collaborative, flexible colleague with experience teaching the full range of learners from grades 9 through 12.
Clear communicator with ability to liaise with students, colleagues, and parents.
Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches, as well as different styles and types of assessment.
Strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of appropriate use of current technology to enhance learning.
Basic understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards, in particular the Science and Engineering practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
2-5 years minimum teaching experience.
Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
Additional Qualifications
Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in science and/or education.
$75,000 – $125,000 a year
Salary prorated depending on percentage of full-time employment.
