Learning Specialist 50% starting August 1, 2024

Head-Royce School is seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, Learning Specialist  to join our Lower School Division, specifically kindergarten through 2nd grade. The successful candidate will be committed to nurturing a diverse, inclusive community, be a good communicator, have prior educational therapy or literacy experience, and demonstrate a genuine desire to work with children in this age group.

Responsibilities 

The Lower School Learning Specialist (Primary Grades)  is responsible for the identification of and ongoing care of students, in grades K-2, who are experiencing academic challenges, or are in need of academic enrichment. In that capacity, the Learning Specialist works closely with students, faculty, administration, parents, and outside allied professionals who are assessing or supporting students.  The Learning Specialist is also responsible for approximately 15-20 hours a week of small group grade-level curricular support to be designed and implemented in consultation with each K-2 classroom teacher. In addition, the Learning Specialist is responsible for supporting the offering of faculty professional development, both formally and informally, in the areas of learning differences and differentiated curriculum that best serves the student body.

Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
Flexible attitude and willingness to teach at all levels, introductory to our most advanced
Flexible in pedagogical approach, using multiple modalities to deliver a concept.
Clear desire to experiment with variety of teaching approaches in order to reach different student populations and adapt to better serve their learning styles and needs
Demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, pedagogical approaches and developmental appropriateness in order to deliver engaging, active, student-centered lessons, practice, and assessment.
Familiar with and uses different kinds of assessment (formative and summative) as well as different types.
Strong collaborator and willing to partner with colleagues to design curriculum, projects, activities, experiences and student support.
Demonstrated experience with technology to enhance the learning experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree
Masters Degree and/or Credential in education therapy
2-5 years of previous experience working with children of this age in a school setting / in the field
Experience teaching a plus

$75,000 – $125,000 a year
Salary prorated depending on percentage of full-time employment.
*Dependent on Years of Experience Teaching and Education Level
