Salary Range: $50,000-55,000 (w/ benefits)

The School:

Seven Hills School, founded in 1962, offers an outstanding PS-8th grade program for approximately 400 students. The beautiful campus is located on 9 acres of former ranch land near Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek, CA (approximately 35 miles from downtown San Francisco), and offers students and teachers the daily opportunity to move freely from engaging classrooms to expanses of outdoor space. The Position: 

Our lower school has two classes at each lower school grade level, K-5. Lower school Support Teachers support lead teachers in each section, K-3, and are key members of each grade level team. At this time, we are seeking a first grade support teacher to join the first grade team, and be the primary support for one of the lead teachers’ classroom of students. Support Teachers are important members of the whole SHS teaching team. We seek teachers compelled by our mission, which includes an exemplary education supported by educators who are dedicated to creating a vibrant, diverse, and joyful learning community.

Core Responsibilities: Support Teachers will be involved in most, if not all, of the following duties:

  • Social emotional learning support for students
  • Supervision of children, including recess, lunchtime, arrival and dismissal
  • Maintaining classroom spaces, and preparing materials for lessons
  • Support with assessments, reports and conferences
  • Teaching individual, small and large groups of children in many subjects
  • Support in meetings, planning and implementation of curriculum and lessons
  • Accompanying students to, and attending some, specialist classes, as needed
  • Providing student observations and feedback, supporting the evaluation process
  • Provide short-term coverage for lead teachers, as needed
  • Assist in coordination of field trips, service learning programs and outdoor education
  • Participation in all team, grade level and faculty meetings

Additional responsibilities may be negotiated based on individual interests and experience. Support Teachers will attend a few evening special events, like Back to School Night and Open House. Support Teachers may attend parent conferences and may support teachers in designing curriculum.

Successful candidates will:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Have the ability to teach multiple grades/subjects
  • Be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Be punctual, reliable and flexible
  • Have some experience with developmental stages of children ages 5-12
  • Have a demonstrated ability to establish a classroom culture that is built on positive, strong teacher-student relationships and encourages risk-taking
  • Have a demonstrated proficiency with the use of technology for teaching and learning
  • Have a demonstrated ability to initiate, fully participate in and foster strong collegial relationships
  • Be self-aware and able to build on others’ ideas, capitalize on others’ strengths and effectively share responsibility
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement
  • Have a growth mindset, active sense of humor, warm personality, and excellent organizational and communication skills
