Position Overview

The Middle School Science Teacher provides classroom instruction to 7th and 8th grade students at Armstrong.  The candidate will possess a knowledge base and passion for teaching students with language based learning differences and a passion for teaching science.  In the classroom, the teacher works to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their personal and academic potential. The teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that maximizes student strengths and promotes academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction for students, focusing on science and engineering practices like: asking questions and defining problems, developing models, analyzing and interpreting data, engaging in argument from evidence, etc.
  • Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with grade level teammates and instructional coaches.
  • Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are able to engage actively in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Communicate and partner effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, and colleagues.

Preferred Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Science, Education, or related field
  • Valid teaching credential
  • Two years of classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Experience with and understanding of middle school age children and children with learning differences
  • Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards
  • Experience with technology – iPads; computers; SmartBoards
