Position Overview
Charles Armstrong School seeks a full-time Art Teacher for grades 2-8. The ideal candidate will be energized by working collaboratively with colleagues, developing cross-curricular lessons, and supporting students in developing their strengths. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for teaching art, embrace the social/emotional wellness of students and their families and have a deep commitment to equity and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach semester-long art classes to elementary students (grades 2-5).
Teach/co-teach quarterly elective art classes to middle school students (grades 6-8).
Lead recess art for lower school students (twice per week) and middle school students (once per week).
Plan and implement a curriculum for art. Curriculum includes, but is not limited to, painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture and printmaking.
Provide opportunities for students to explore issues of identity and culture through art.
Display art around campus, curate student art for various art contests, and for end of year art celebration.
Work with homeroom, math, social studies, and science teachers to integrate other subject areas into the art when possible.
Plan and conduct projects for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
Collaborate on art for the yearbook, including front and back cover designs and inside art.
Manage art supplies, equipment, tools, and classroom, kiln, and storage spaces.
Create a well-organized, safe, and student-centered room that reflects an art environment.
Implement Armstrong Best Teaching Practices.
Collaborate with co-teacher on quarterly and semester report card anecdotal.
Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably in Art, Art Education
Master’s degree or Teaching Credential preferred
Minimum 3 years as an art teacher working with similar aged students
Experience working with a wide range of materials & techniques in the visual arts
Experience working with students with learning differences and knowledge about differentiated instruction
Experience with Responsive Classroom preferred
In-depth knowledge and continued interest in current art education research, best practices and professional growth
Familiarity with the California Visual Arts Standards
Experience with social and emotional learning strategies
Knowledge of computer graphic art and ceramics

Competitive salaries commensurate with experience, ranging from $75,000-$120,000 annually
