Hourly Rate: $24-$26 DOE

POSITION SUMMARY

The Extended Day (XD) Teacher is responsible for supporting the academic, social-emotional, and developmental growth of all children in their care. The individual in this position develops partnerships with the Director of Extended Day & Enrichment, other Extended Day staff, and parents/guardians to encourage participation in the program. With direction and guidance from the Director of Extended Day & Enrichment, the XD Teacher helps to execute weekly plans, assists with the preparation of materials, contributes to the monthly newsletter, supports and implements developmentally appropriate projects, games, and activities, helps to maintain an engaging and safe environment and conducts vigilant supervision of students both inside the classrooms and outside on the playgrounds. The XD Teacher also works collegially with other staff members of Seven Hills School.

This is a part-time position, 4 hours a day, subject to change as needed.

Mandatory All Community events include: Back to School Nights, All Community Parent Dinner, All Community Classroom Open House, Graduation

Additional XD programming commitments include: XD Training Week and other staff development, faculty work week camps, PD camp days, conference camp days, 3 XD camps during non-school weeks (Fall break, President’s break, and Spring break), 4-5 Kids Night Out evenings, XD team meetings, and 4 weeks of XD summer camp. (Evening commitments such as Kids Night Out, XD team meetings, etc. will be in addition to your regular work day)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication:

Checks and responds to emails in a timely manner
Maintains daily communication with parents in the Extended Day program.
Maintains daily communication with Extended Day Teachers and Director, as well as a K-8 staff in regards to students in their programs.
Attends all Extended Day team meetings and trainings.
Contributes content to monthly newsletters.

Preparation/Planning:

Serves as an active member of the Extended Day team by contributing ideas, plans, and activities to the program.
Plans, organizes and implements quality small group activities in accordance with the program’s mission and adheres to deadlines.
Contributes to the monthly XD activity calendar and follows through on preparation and execution of planned activities.

General Duties/responsibilities:

Demonstrates a solid understanding of, and ensures strict adherence to, School’s policies and California Child Care Licensing policies and procedures
Maintains safety guidelines in relation to supervision and safety protocols as well as licensing guidelines.
Establishes, cooperates with and positively supports a developmentally appropriate environment that reflects student learning and growth and extends learning from the Lower School/Middle School programs
Establishes, maintains and evaluates a physically and emotionally safe environment
Demonstrates cultural competency and respect for students’ backgrounds by incorporating the students’ cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into plans and activities, in collaboration with the classroom teachers, other Extended Day Teachers and Director
Conducts active supervision of, and engage with, students in the Cottage, the library, the inside of K-8 spaces and on the playgrounds
Makes progress toward annually defined personal and professional goals
Believes, actively supports and exemplifies the Seven Hills School Mission Statement

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (or equivalent experience in a related field) working in an elementary and/or middle school or licensed child care facility
Experience working with children ages 5-14
Experience supporting and implementing age-appropriate educational activities
Proven ability to interact with children, parents and staff in a positive, respectful, and engaging manner at all times
All necessary legal requirements for U.S. and California school teachers, including immigration/citizenship status (Form I-9), tuberculosis risk assessment and/or examination, thorough review of the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law, Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification, and satisfactory FBI and Department of Justice reports, to be obtained by having fingerprints scanned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the following are required:

Ability to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat or crawl
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency, a 40-pound child
Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Ability to drive a motor vehicle, if required
Effectively use equipment and materials
