Personal & Academic Counselor

STATUS: Exempt, Full time

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal for Academics

SALARY RANGE: $88,000 – $123,000

PRIMARY ROLE:

We seek a candidate who can implement a comprehensive counseling program to meet the needs of their assigned students.  Counselors in the department assess needs and design solutions to remove barriers to students’ success.  Counselors consult with teachers and families to enhance effectiveness in helping students.  We seek a candidate who will incorporate Ignatian ideals and philosophy in counseling methods.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage a caseload of approximately 250 students in 9th-12th grades
Meet both individually and in small groups with assigned students to support students with social, emotional, and academic issues
Conduct risk assessments for students in emotional crisis and collaborate with Wellness team
Partner with faculty and families to identify areas of need and collaborate on solutions for student support
Monitor and track academic performance and interventions for caseload and document specifics in PowerSchool
Meet weekly with students who are in the Academic Recovery Program and collaborate with with Center for Academic and Target Support (CATS) staff on student progress
Make referrals as appropriate to other support services on campus
Support students with academic planning and manage course selection process
Participate in SI events such as Back to School Night, as well as Counseling evening events
Participate in establishing the Counseling department calendar
Participate in the co-curricular life of the school as a moderator or coach
Participate in Campus Ministry area of the school, including overnight student and faculty retreats
Participate in on-going professional development
Serve as a content/curriculum leader, updating and creating content for the Personal and Academic Counseling Team as it pertains to your area
Collaborate with other Personal and Academic Counselors, as well as College and Wellness Counselors to continually evaluate and improve way(s) to support students

The Ideal Candidate has:

Experience and desire to work with high school students
Ability to serve as a trusted adult on campus and advocate for students ensuring they feel supported
Knowledge of academic requirements as it pertains to A-G eligibility and graduation requirements
A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong speaking/writing skills
Effective counseling and evaluation skills & training
Collaborative working style
Excellent organization and time management skills
Ease and experience with computers; proficient with a variety of software programs including Student Information Systems

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum Qualifications/Education Requirements:

Combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications/Education Requirements:

Three years’ experience in a similar position performing the duties and demonstrating a high level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
Masters degree in Counseling, Psychology or Education.
PPS credential, or MFT/LCSW licensure.
