Humanities at GMS

Humanities at GMS integrates Language Arts with Social Studies, an approach that develops in students an awareness of themselves, their community, and the world. The multicultural curriculum prepares young women to become powerful communicators, creative as well as critical thinkers, and positive contributors to a just and pluralistic society. The Humanities Department nurtures and supports creativity, growth, and expression, and students develop the ability to speak and write thoughtfully and fluently.

Humanities teachers work in grade level teams of two and plan and teach in tandem.

The 7th grade curriculum makes connections between American history and literature, placing emphasis on the relationships between race, identity and class. Students gain an understanding of our individual, political, and social rights and see how ideologies can shape the rights of individuals.
