Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Criteria:

Bentley School seeks a permanent substitute teacher for grades K-8, who is committed to delivering high-quality instructions in all subjects, starting in the 24/25 school year. The K-8 Permanent Substitute is responsible for teaching K-8 classes, covering duties, and ensuring student well-being when faculty members are absent. This is a full-time position with benefits.

 

Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

●      Provide classroom and duty coverage

●      Teach content and skills in K-8 subject areas, as determined by the teacher, utilizing curriculum and other appropriate learning materials provided

●      Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials as necessary in emergency situations

●      Administer or supervise in-class assessments

●      Create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment where students thrive academically

●      Collaborate regularly with the other grade-level teachers and specialists

●      Participate in all aspects of Bentley’s character education curriculum

●      Instruct individual students, small groups, or whole class to carry out curriculum

●      Prepare and organize instructional materials

●      Attend regular faculty and grade-level meetings

●      Assist with supervision of students during lunch, recess, traffic duty, special events, off-campus field trips, etc.

●      Attend various school functions, including Admissions events, Back to School Night, Conferences, etc.

●      Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

●      A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

●      Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration and use of technology.

●      Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content

●      Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills.

●      Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students.

●      Desire to continually examine one’s practice with the goal to improve student learning

Physical Requirements:

Consistent mental alertness; standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time; lift, carry, push, and pull moderate weight objects; bending and twisting at waist and neck; kneeling and bending at the waist, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of fingers and both arms and hands while performing duties, seeing to read, write, and use a computer; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.

 

Pay Range:

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary for this position ranges from $53,000 – $55,000 per year (paid semi-monthly, 12 months, non-exempt).  This position is eligible for comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement.
