Job Summary
Bishop O’Dowd High School is seeking excellent candidates for a high school Mandarin teacher for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic school year. This is a full-time position, teaching five sections each semester, ranging from 9th to 12th graders, and participating in the O’Dowd community. Potential classes range from Mandarin 1 to AP Mandarin Language and the candidate would be able to masterfully teach different levels of high school Mandarin and actively engage students in the learning process.
Other responsibilities may include teaching electives, maintaining regular office hours, supporting student co-curricular activities, and collaborating regularly with colleagues. Teachers at Bishop O’Dowd High School are responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in alignment with Bishop O’Dowd High School’s Integral Student Outcomes. The individual in this position will collaborate most closely with their respective department team, ensuring consistency across grade levels and content areas. Teachers are also expected to collaborate and communicate consistently with counselors to ensure whole-student support and success while maintaining open and engaging lines of communication with guardians and families.

Plan, prepare, and deliver expected outcomes in accordance with the school mission and charism
Fluent and accurate written and verbal skills and in-depth knowledge of Mandarin culture as it relates to the curriculum
Observe and evaluate comparable systems and structures at other school sites and educational organizations
Use appropriate technology to support and differentiate team effectiveness and community engagement
Assess and evaluate individual and team impact and effectiveness and use data to enhance or adjust practices
Work outside the normal schedule periodically in order to collaborate with colleagues
Maintain restorative and collaborative dialogue with colleagues, students, parents, and the greater Bishop O’Dowd community
Participate constructively and professionally in department and school meetings
Participate constructively and professionally in departmental and school-wide professional development
Participate in co-curricular activities such as social activities, sporting events, clubs, retreats, student organizations, student advisories, and affinity spaces as directed

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of and passion for high school education and adolescent development.
Ability to pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint clearance
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential, in appropriate content area, as required by the California Education Code
Possession of an English Learner Authorization (also known as CLAD or BCLAD) may be required
Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code
Evidenced knowledge of and experience in the required job area
Proven ability to differentiate access and provide experiences for diverse community needs
Ability to foster a safe, inclusive, equitable, and joyful working environment
A nuanced understanding of DEI from a personal and/or professional perspective
Experience authentically engaging with diverse working environments
Proven success in collaborating with colleagues and innovating practices
Bachelor’s degree and/or related education or experience applicable to the responsibilities of the position
