High School Substitute Teacher Pool
Contract – Hourly, on call
Salary – $40 per class session, $160 per day max

Job Summary

In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular teacher is absent, the Substitute Teacher will need to effectively manage and instruct the class. You will be asked to cover a maximum of four class periods in a day and you may be called to substitute the morning of class.

Job requirements may include but are not limited to:

Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students;
Collect homework that is due;
Administer assignment tests or quizzes per teacher’s lesson plans;
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment;
Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls;
Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan;
For long-term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans.

Salary: $40 per class period, a maximum of $160 for a class day

A successful candidate will:

 

Bachelor’s degree or higher
Have interest in teaching
Strong English verbal and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages
General knowledge of several subjects
Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms
Flexibility and critical-thinking skills
Patience
Basic technological skills (laptop usage, projecting images via projector, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree and California Clear teaching credential preferred
Practicing Roman Catholic
