Position Description
Armstrong advisors create and facilitate daily advisory meetings. Math classes are taught by one teacher in small groups of approximately 8-10 students. Candidates possess an interest in teaching students with dyslexia and related learning differences. In the classroom, the teacher works to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their personal and academic potential. The teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program in mathematics that maximizes student strengths and promotes academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide direct, differentiated instruction in small math groups for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades focusing on 21st century skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.
Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with middle school math coaches and teachers.
Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs.
Provide a positive environment in which students are able to engage actively in meaningful learning experiences.
Communicate and partner effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.
Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, and colleagues.
Preferred Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Valid teaching credential
Experience with and understanding of adolescent children in grades 6-8
Experience with and understanding of children with learning differences
Two or more years of classroom teaching experience
