Position Overview
Currently Charles Armstrong School is looking for a full-time, middle school small group literacy teacher. The Small Group Literacy Teacher provides academic and emotional support for small groups of students in grades 6-8, delivering instruction in literacy, with an emphasis on oral reading fluency, comprehension, and academic vocabulary.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teach small group reading classes to students in grades 6, 7, and 8
Work with students, teachers and other faculty to create strategies that promote academic success
Administer academic screenings/assessments as needed
Communicate and meet with the Director of Middle School on a regular basis
Communicate and meet with the Director of Teaching and Learning as needed
Update families regularly regarding student progress
Attend weekly division level meetings
Attend grade level meetings as needed
Complete quarterly report cards
Conference with each student’s family three times per year
Consult with teachers, parents, administration and outside professionals regarding individualized needs of students regarding classroom and home interventions
Engage in ongoing professional development
Other duties as assigned
Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience:
3-5 years teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level working with children with language based learning differences
Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching techniques
Knowledge of various assessment measures and ability interpret data to evaluate progress
Training in a variety of reading programs, i.e. Read 180, Wilson, Just Words, Orton-Gillingham, Slingerland, preferred
Wilson Certificate, Master’s degree, and/or Special Education certification preferred
Additional Skills:
The ability to work with children of all ages who are dealing with various learning challenges
Ability to adapt and manage competing priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate with a team
Ability to partner with parents
Knowledge of relevant technology
