Position Summary
We are seeking excellent candidates for the role of Early Elementary Dean ( K-2) serving girls and boys in Grades K-2.

As a Schools of the Sacred Heart employee, the purpose of the Early Elementary Dean is to have oversight over Kindergarten through Grade 2 with the purpose of having each child meet and stretch their capacities academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.   The Early Elementary Dean is the first line of contact for Kindergarten through Grade 2 parent questions and collaborates with faculty, academic and program leaders to monitor and form the overall student experience.

Each Dean should have proven expertise in the cognitive, social, and emotional development associated with the form level. They should also exemplify expertise in the field of teaching and the student learning experience.  Both independent and collaborative leadership is required as well as effective communication skills.

Schools of the Sacred Heart is committed to an in-person teaching model and faculty and staff must be prepared to adhere to and support our Health and Safety Plan.

Since this is a new position there will be collaborative development of responsibilities throughout  on-boarding.

Responsibilities:

Leadership/Professional/Administrative

Serve on Leadership Team
Be current on cognitive and developmental needs of K-2 students
Develop and deliver parent education programming as it pertains to cognitive social-emotional learning through coffees and other events
Intervene in times of academic challenges and act to form a strategy with students, teachers and parents
Be available for parents who have questions or wish to voice concerns
Keep the appropriate Division Heads and Dean of Studies informed about student progress and special issues
Communicate with Division Heads and faculty across divisions to facilitate alignment opportunities
Initiates and delivers timely professional development to K-2 faculty
Curricular & Logistics

Collaborate with Department Chairs and Division Heads to assess and refine the K-2 Research/Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction
Build and manage schedule, including faculty duty schedules, with support from Dean of Studies and with guidance from Division Heads
Initiate and responsively manage lunch schedule and cafeteria logistics
Support grade reporting process in collaboration with Dean of Studies and Department Chairs
Read and review academic comments at each grading period and periodically as needed
Oversee programming that builds class unity and coordinate/chaperone day trips
Organize required faculty and grade-level team meetings in collaboration with Elementary Leadership Team
Morning/Afternoon Traffic Duty
Student Experience & Learning

Serve as the primary contact for students in the assigned grade form
Implement student discipline in accordance with school philosophy
Help students maximize their academic learning with the teaching and learning support faculty
Help students maximize their social-emotional learning
Support and develop the single-sex experience at each division
Supporting and develop meaningful co-ed opportunities within grade levels
Monitor the consistency and equity of the curricular academic experience and co-curricular programming across divisions in collaboration with Division Heads and Department Chairs
Keep faculty informed about specific circumstances that affect students
Admissions

Assist the Admissions Office with tours, parent interviews, and student visits
Serve on the Admissions Committee
Participate in preschool visitation
Participate in prospective family tours and support the onboarding of new families

Qualifications
To be considered candidates should submit a resume and cover letter displaying their qualifications in the following areas:

Requires an undergraduate degree in the field of study, a Masters degree is strongly preferred.
Prefer 3-5 years of relevant classroom teaching experience.
Independent and collaborative leadership is required as well as effective communication skills.
Teachers at Convent & Stuart Hall are confident and creative educational practitioners who have the ability to develop, curate and deliver courses in the school’s curriculum.
Candidates should have excellent writing and communication skills.
History of collegiality and collaboration with other teachers and administrators.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles.
Innovative, creative, and flexible teaching style.
Understanding the developmental needs of students and how they learn best.
Requires demonstrated and direct experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools including iPads, laptops, and Google Apps.
Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative.
Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with students and adults.
Must be a role model and maintain a high level of professionalism.
Experience with independent schools is strongly preferred.
